My son and I had a conversation the other day about for what he prayed. He is leaving for his second tour of Iraq on the 12th and he doesn’t want to go. He has a three month old baby girl and wife at home. I asked him for what did he pray, and he said God’s will. I asked him to remember that we must not only pray God’s will, but we must also ask of God what it is we want from Him in accordance with His will for our lives.
What is asking of God but prayer, and what is prayer but conversation with God? Prayer is an intimate, loving, honest and revealing talk with our Father. My father is gone, but I recall many a day sitting and talking with him about my wants, my desires, my frustration, hurts and joys. Do you ever laugh with God? He can be funny at times. Remember, He is real. He is alive. He sees us. He hears us. He loves us. Scripture says that the prayers of a righteous man availeth much. Ask someone whose Saviour is Jesus Christ to stand with you in prayer for when two or three are gathered together in His name [Jesus], He is in the midst and when you pray, what you bind, or loose on earth is also bound or loosed in heaven.
God’s Word does not lie. Thus, His Word is true. Here is some Scripture for you on the asking of God.
Matthew 6: 8 … for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Matthew 7: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Matthew 7: 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in Heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Matthew 18: 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
John 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
Ephesians 3: 20 Now unto him that is able to do give immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine, according to the power that worketh in us….
Imagine, if according to God’s purpose in our life (which must be completed for it is written in Psalm 138:8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me) that if we ask accordingly, our God is able to give us IMMEASURABLY MORE than we can ask for or imagine. Let your voice ring with the word Hallelujah!!!!!.
I told my son, don’t be afraid to ask God, through Christ Jesus, for what you want, and to remember, He always has an answer, and it always comes in His time. Drop to your knees and cry out to Him your needs. He hears. Thank God. He hears.
Father, teach me to pray. Teach me how to talk to You, how to place my needs and others’ needs before You. Let not my prayer be a selfish prayer, but let me be humble in prayer, and pray for others with a need far greater and more troubling than mine. Give me wisdom and let me learn patience, so that I may listen and address the needs of those whom you placed before me. Do not let me turn away from somebody in need. Lord, I cannot thank You enough for what You have given me. Thank You for giving us the avenue of prayer to talk to You. Amen.
