Recently, music icon, Michael Jackson, died unexpectedly. Some say he died before his time. I disagree. Just this week, an airbus crashed in the Indian Ocean. The only survivor was a five year old little boy. Upon hearing of this event, my daughter said to me, “I wonder what his purpose in life is?” The mere fact that he survived, under incredible circumstances, is a miracle. How does this little survivor fit into the realm of things? What history is he to create?
The Bible says we are predestined. It also says that God knew and formed us before the foundations of the earth. Scripture also says that He will perfect that which concerns us. God’s Word also says that we have a specific purpose, but our primary purpose is to give God praise and glory. Ephesians 1: 11 In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will.
Destiny plays a part in all our lives. Have you ever played the ‘What if?’ game? Go back through your life. Note the instances where if you had done one little thing differently your life’s path would be completely different. Where would I be if I hadn’t moved to this city? What if I hadn’t gone to that particular university? What would have happened if I hadn’t gone to this place on that day, at that particular time? What would my life be if I hadn’t met so and so who introduced me to so and so? Think back of the circumstances where things just kinda happened, or so you thought. Was it destiny? God knows exactly where you are. There are not any ‘lucky’ occasions for those who believe in God. Nothing happens by chance.
I read that history is not the obvious occurrence. History began with the initial thought, idea or act that led to the obvious occurrence. Apple computers started out in the garage of its founder, but really, it started when its founder began to think of how he could make a better computer and began moving his efforts, and thoughts, in that direction. Former president Bill Clinton began his journey to the presidency of the United States as a youngster with his first visit to the White House. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This Scripture really identifies the ‘initial thought’ which begins our destiny, our history and Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Hoping you and yours have an excellent, safe and memorable Fourth of July!
Father, you know where I am, for I am your creation. You know my heart, my thoughts, my fears, and my current circumstance. You know my longings and my needs. You created me for a specific purpose. I pray that I make choices that are parallel to Your will in my life. Father, give me wisdom to make good, Godly decisions. I have these talents and these gifts You have given me. Let me use them to your benefit; to your glory and honor. Father, let me honor You by living the life You destined for me to live. Ephesians 3: 14 – 21 For this reason I kneel before the Father, … I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen [me] with power through His Spirit in [my] inner being, so that Christ may dwell in [my] heart through faith. And I pray that [I am] rooted and established in love, [that I] may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that [I] may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all [I] ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within [me], to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. By the Blood of Christ Jesus, I pray.
