Hoping all is well with you and yours.
One of the few things in life I hate are daily news programs (maybe hate is too strong an emotion; maybe utter disdain is a better description). I find ‘them’ to be so negative, depressing and lacking (most of the time, anything good. Even the weather forecasters present the dreary before the beauty. And if there is anything good, or positive, or uplifting to report such encouragement typically comes within the last few minutes of the ‘news’. Its’ presentation is almost hypnotic, especially the cable news broadcasting – so repetitive in nature, so opinionated. When did news become someone’s viewpoint?
Today, I happened to look at the TV screen when the news broad-caster mentioned something about someone jumping to their death from a bridge in Los Angeles, CA., and I thought WOW… How can life get so bad that you want to end it? I know life has its issues, but to end such a precious thing, something that we had nothing to do with; and I thought what was wrong, where was this person’s hope, his support; did they not feel loved? Why was this person so despairing of life?
An eyewitness said that the man did not skip a beat. He parked, got out of his car, climbed over and jumped. Some would say he exhibited no fear. I feel differently. The Holy Bible says that ‘perfect love cast out all fear’! What else but fear would entice one to do as this gentleman did? The most cowardly thing we can do, I feel, is to not face our fear, our fears. We all have fear, but what’s important is how we deal with it. We have nothing to fear, but we are human and we have our frailties. God says to cast our fears upon him; daily he carries our burdens, and not to let our hearts be troubled, nor let it be afraid. Daily, I attempt to not let my heart be troubled, and daily I give to Him what He tells me to cast upon Him.
But, the most important thing for us to remember is that we are never alone. God is always with us. Life is only a stepping stone along our journey. We are Christians – we are destined for a place paved with gold. We are heaven bound.
No matter what your trial, your thorn, hang in there. I think of David and of all that he went through, and he was the apple of God’s eye. He never lost faith that God was his provision. When he needed encouragement and no one was around to give, he encouraged himself. So, I say to you, increase your faith, your mustard seed – believe God (in Christ Jesus) who is indeed faithful. Fear not for indeed you have nothing to fear.
Father, your word says do not fear for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God – I will strengthen you and help you – I will uphold you in the righteousness of my right hand. Father, teach us to rest in you, and you alone. Father, you in Christ Jesus are our kinsman redeemer. We are prisoners of hope in you. When we fear, let us trust in you. In Jesus name, we pray, Amen.
