Kinsman Redeemer

Hoping all is well with you and yours.

One of the few things in life I hate are daily news programs (maybe hate is too strong an emotion; maybe utter disdain is a better description). I find ‘them’ to be so negative, depressing and lacking (most of the time, anything good. Even the weather forecasters present the dreary before the beauty.  And if there is anything good, or positive, or uplifting to report such encouragement typically comes within the last few minutes of the ‘news’. Its’ presentation is almost hypnotic, especially the cable news broadcasting – so repetitive in nature, so opinionated. When did news become someone’s viewpoint?

Today, I happened tImage result for hang in thereo look at the TV screen when the news broad-caster mentioned something about someone jumping to their death from a bridge in Los Angeles, CA., and I thought WOW… How can life get so bad that you want to end it? I know life has its issues, but to end such a precious thing, something that we had nothing to do with; and I thought what was wrong, where was this person’s hope, his support; did they not feel loved? Why was this person so despairing of life? Continue reading →

A Selfish Prayer

1_john_5_14Father, I know you love me for it is not written that I am the righteousness of God in Christ; am I not your beloved child; your very special possession for have I not chosen you as my Lord and savior? Art thou not my salvation?

I know you are with me. I know you are for me. I know you abide in me. I know you are HE who sustains me. I know there is an appointed time for everything under the sun and in my life.

Father, you who have collected my tears; you who have counted the strands of hair on my head; you who knew me and formed me before the foundation of the earth – does not your word say there is no shame for those whose trust and hope is in you? Father your word says surely you will bless me. Your word says that you will increase me and my children more and more. Your word says that I am your special possession. Your word says ask and it shall be given unto you. This I declare unto me for that is what you have promised me and Lord, I am holding you to it.   Continue reading →

Pivotal Points

trusting GodThere comes a time in life when your trust, and hope, in God is truly tested. Trusting and believing is no longer just talk. Circumstances are so that you either trust God, or you don’t because the situation will not allow you to be lukewarm.  The test may come through losing not only your job, but finances, or great health issues arise for you or those near and dear to you, or children give you grief, or the unimaginable occurs, and you wonder what is really going on.  You find yourself in a position where you either believe, or don’t believe that God’s grace is sufficient. You either rest, or doubt in Christ’s finished work on the cross.   Continue reading →

Stuff Happens

Stuff happens. Life has its unexpected occurrences. I call them tweaks. We get sick, or someone near to us gets sick. One may go to the doctor for a check up and their tests come back not as expected. One travels to the grocery store and gets in an accident. We get sidetracked and do wrong and that can lead to other unpleasant stuff in our lives. For a time, we may lose our sense of well being and security.

On Friday, one of my boss’ best of friends, while performing his daily bike ride, so concentrating on his ride, ran head on into a parked delivery truck. He is, at present (for we know we serve a God who can change things) paralyzed. He is 56. My boss asked me to pray. I did. I am. I asked him to pray, too.

On Thursday afternoon, in broad daylight, one of our neighbors had her door kicked in, and she was robbed. Thanks to God, she wasn’t home. She is 83. You know what her response was? It wasn’t fear. It wasn’t anger. Her response was, “I’m not going to let stuff like that bother me. I’m not going to be around here much longer anyway.” Her response made me think.  Continue reading →

Asking Of God‏

praying god's willMy son and I had a conversation the other day about for what he prayed. He is leaving for his second tour of Iraq on the 12th and he doesn’t want to go. He has a three month old baby girl and wife at home. I asked him for what did he pray, and he said God’s will. I asked him to remember that we must not only pray God’s will, but we must also ask of God what it is we want from Him in accordance with His will for our lives.

What is asking of God but prayer, and what is prayer but conversation with God? Prayer is an intimate, loving, honest and revealing talk with our Father. My father is gone, but I recall many a day sitting and talking with him about my wants, my desires, my frustration, hurts and joys. Do you ever laugh with God? He can be funny at times. Remember, He is real. He is alive. He sees us. He hears us. He loves us. Scripture says that the prayers of a righteous man availeth much. Ask someone whose Saviour is Jesus Christ to stand with you in prayer for when two or three are gathered together in His name [Jesus], He is in the midst and when you pray, what you bind, or loose on earth is also bound or loosed in heaven.  Continue reading →
