Our Father, Who Art in Heaven …

the lord's prayer

Last week, while praying the Lord’s Prayer, I began to associate different pieces of Scripture with each phrase. I hope you enjoy these verses as I did in searching and selecting them. Again, my hope, and my prayer is that these pieces of Scripture – of the Bible – of God’s Word, allow you to draw nearer to Him so that He may draw nearer to you.

Our Father

Romans 8: 15 -17 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Continue reading →

Stuff Happens

Stuff happens. Life has its unexpected occurrences. I call them tweaks. We get sick, or someone near to us gets sick. One may go to the doctor for a check up and their tests come back not as expected. One travels to the grocery store and gets in an accident. We get sidetracked and do wrong and that can lead to other unpleasant stuff in our lives. For a time, we may lose our sense of well being and security.

On Friday, one of my boss’ best of friends, while performing his daily bike ride, so concentrating on his ride, ran head on into a parked delivery truck. He is, at present (for we know we serve a God who can change things) paralyzed. He is 56. My boss asked me to pray. I did. I am. I asked him to pray, too.

On Thursday afternoon, in broad daylight, one of our neighbors had her door kicked in, and she was robbed. Thanks to God, she wasn’t home. She is 83. You know what her response was? It wasn’t fear. It wasn’t anger. Her response was, “I’m not going to let stuff like that bother me. I’m not going to be around here much longer anyway.” Her response made me think.  Continue reading →

Let Us Pray

Lord, I thank You this day for allowing me to know You and to love You. I thank You for using me as You see fit. I thank You for the beautiful days, the scent of flowers, the waves that roll unto the land and the sound of the ocean which echoes through a mere shell. I thank You for my trials and tribulations, my joy, my good health and my sound mind. I thank You for the wonderful gift of Your son, Jesus, who died on the cross for me. Who am I but a worm and so unworthy of Your goodness and Your mercy? Yet, You love me unconditionally.

Lord, I thank You for my blessings and for answered prayers. I thank You for the healing You have bestowed upon those who have asked for such healing. I thank You for hearing and answering the prayers of the many faceless people for whom I have prayed. prayI pray that You, as Scripture says, reveal Yourself to those that did not ask, for it is Your will that none perish and that all come to the light of salvation. You know the ones I have prayed for Lord; the oppressed, the dying, the lost and confused, those who rebel and run from You, those on drugs because they think their problems disappear but for a moment. Lord, I am but a mist in a vapor. How insignificant I am, but yet I, and others like me, are so important to You. Lord, You have chosen to save us all, if we but choose You!

Jesus. What a wonderful name! What power lies in Your name! Your dying on the cross gave me so much more than salvation. It gives me an opportunity to give testimony to others who are not fully aware of You about Your goodness, Your strength, Your unconditional love and Your forgiveness of sin. It allows me to preach the good gospel of Jesus Christ – to assist in bringing one lost soul to the body of Christ. James 5: 19 Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death … Lord, when I cannot speak the words in prayer to You, let my Spirit speak to You. Sometimes, there is so much to ask of You, so much for which to pray, and words fail me. But Lord, You know my needs, the needs of those around me, and the needs of Your children. I stand in faith knowing that my hope lies only in You and that what I ask for, in accordance with thine will and purpose, shall be granted unto me. Amen!

Lord, be with me this day. Let me be encouraged in Your Word. Guide me. Protect me. Be not far from me. Help me to bring someone to You. Forgive me of my sins. By the Blood of Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.

God’s grace, mercy and love upon all of us.
